A1-C1 Spy Cards 5.0. For Groups only!

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to play:

For groups only!

In this clever deduction game, all players are told a secret location — except for one person, who is the spy. The spy’s job is to figure out the location by listening carefully and asking smart questions, without revealing they don’t know where they are.

Each round begins with the game leader assigning roles: everyone gets a card showing the same location, while one card says “Spy.” Cards should be kept secret. The group then takes turns asking each other casual, creative questions about the place. The goal is to sound believable — whether you're hiding the fact that you’re the spy, or trying to expose who is.

Rounds last around 8 minutes or until the players feel ready to vote on who they think the spy is. If the spy is caught, the others win. If the spy escapes detection — or correctly guesses the location — they win the round.

Offline play:

  • Use printed cards.
  • Prepare location cards equal to the number of players plus one "Spy" card.

Online play:

  • Send roles privately through chat.
  • For each round, select a new location. It’s best to pick someone confident and creative as the spy, as they'll need to be quick on their feet.

Example Location: Castle

  • Possible Questions:
  • Would you expect to see tourists here?
  • What kind of clothes might people wear in this place?
  • Are there animals here?

Great for building speaking skills, thinking on your feet, and group interaction — with plenty of laughs along the way!
