Before or After

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to use:

Individual Work

  • Show an action card (e.g. get dressed, brush teeth).
  • Ask the student to say when they usually do it — before or after another activity.
  • Encourage the use of time expressions (always, usually, sometimes…) and full sentences (e.g. I usually get dressed after breakfast.).
  • Ask for explanations: Why?, What makes more sense?

Pair or Group Work

  • Put students in pairs or small groups.
  • Each student gets one card or takes turns choosing an action.
  • They say when the action happens for them and explain why.
  • Partners compare habits and ask follow-up questions.

Class Sharing

  • Invite students to share the most interesting or unusual routine.
  • Highlight correct use of sequencing (before/after) and time expressions.
  • Briefly review or correct common grammar slips.
