Guess My If - First Conditional
How to use this activity:
Individual Work
The student reads a result on a card (e.g. “I will be very tired”) and creates two or more conditional sentences with if.
Pair or Group Work
Both partners get the same result card. They secretly write their own if-clauses. Then they reveal and decide whose is the most original or funniest.
Swap and Extend: Partner A reads the result and gives one if-clause. Partner B must extend it with a second conditional clause (e.g. If I don’t sleep well, I’ll be very tired. If I’m very tired, I’ll forget my homework.).
Group Work
Multiple Guesses: One student reads the result. Each group member suggests an if-clause. The reader chooses the closest, most creative, or funniest.
Scoring Round: The reader awards points for originality (1 point), logic (1 point), or humour (1 point). Rotate roles so everyone reads.
Chain Reaction: A student reads the result (“I will be very tired”). The next person creates an if-clause (“If I stay up late”). The following student adds another result from that (“If I stay up late, I’ll miss the bus”), and so on, until the chain collapses into nonsense or hilarity.
