How Do You Feel About?

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

Individual work

  • The teacher shows the student one card with an everyday topic.
  • The student reads the prompts, chooses a phrase from the scale to show how they feel about the topic, and explains why.
  • The student then gives one or two simple personal reasons for their answer.
  • The teacher can model possible answers before the activity.

For example:
Coffee — “I like it. It helps me wake up.”
Mondays — “I don’t like them very much. I feel tired.”
Cats — “I love them. They are cute.”

Encourage the student to give short personal answers, not only one phrase from the scale.

Pair / Group work (including breakout rooms)

  • The teacher assigns one or more cards to each pair or group. Students work in pairs or small groups (2–4 students).
  • They take turns reading the prompts, choosing a phrase from the scale, and explaining their answers.
  • Partners can ask simple follow-up questions and compare opinions.

Class sharing

Invite some students or groups to share their answers with the class.

The class can discuss:

  • which topics students liked most
  • which topics students disliked
  • which answers were similar or different

Focus on fluency, confidence, interaction, and expressing simple opinions in English.

Extra ideas

  • Students find 3 things they both like or dislike.
  • Students guess their partner’s answer before they speak.
  • Students choose the most popular and least popular topic in the class.
