Keep or Kick
How to Use This Activity
Individual Work
Each student gets a card with a modern trend or habit (e.g. digital detox weekends, fast fashion). They decide if they would keep or kick it and prepare a short explanation using the Useful Phrases (e.g. I’d definitely keep it because… / I strongly believe it should go because…). Encourage them to use strong adjectives and intensifiers.
Pair or Group Work
Students take turns reading their card aloud and giving their opinion. Others can agree, disagree, or ask follow-up questions (e.g. Why do you think so? / Can you give an example?). Optionally, organise it as a mini debate: one side argues to keep the trend, the other argues to kick it. After both sides speak, the group votes on the most convincing argument.
Class Sharing
After several rounds, ask students to present one or two trends they discussed and summarise their final decisions. Classmates can challenge opinions, ask for clarification, or vote on the most persuasive or well-supported arguments. Encourage advanced language use and varied opinion starters.
