My Autopilot Mode

Individual work

• The teacher assigns one or more cards to the student.
• The student reads the moment and thinks about what they do automatically in that situation — without planning or deciding. They prepare 2–3 sentences describing what happens, what they notice themselves doing, and why it feels automatic.
• The teacher can model a sample answer before the activity.
  For example: Waiting for the bus — "I just automatically check my phone. Without even thinking, I open Instagram before I even look up to see if the bus is coming. It's like my body just knows what to do."
• Encourage students to use the phrase starters, describe their own habits, and share personal examples.

Pair / Group work (including breakout rooms)

• The teacher assigns one or more cards to each pair or group.
• One student reads the moment and describes their autopilot version of it.
• Their partner asks follow-up questions, shares their own version, and compares how it's similar or different.
• Students then swap roles and continue with a new card.
• The teacher can suggest follow-up questions for partners to ask.
