Pair / Group work (including breakout rooms)
The teacher assigns one or more cards to each pair or group.
One student reads the situation card aloud and chooses one person in the class to join them. They explain whom they would choose and why.
Their partner or the other group members ask follow-up questions, share their own choices and compare their answers to see whether they chose the same person or different people.
Students take turns and continue with a new card.

Class sharing
After the pair or group discussion, students share one or two of their answers with the class.
The teacher encourages students to compare their choices, explain their reasons, and discuss why different people were chosen for different situations.

Extra ideas

Once students have discussed several cards, they can:
- find three situations in which they chose the same person;
- find three situations in which they made different choices and explain why;
- decide which situation was the most difficult to answer and explain why;
- create a new situation card for another pair or group;
- discuss how their choices would change if they could choose a family member, celebrity or fictional character instead of someone from the class;
- choose one situation in which they would not select the person they chose most often and explain why;
- role-play one of the situations after making their choice.
