My Year in Moments
❄️ How to Use the Activity
Individual Work
The student opens a card with a prompt about a moment from their year (e.g. “A moment this year when you chose yourself”).
The student speaks for a few sentences, describing the moment and explaining why it was important for them.
Encourage the student to:
use past tenses,
give at least one extra detail (what happened, where they were, who was involved, or how they felt),
focus on reflection, not just facts.
Pair or Group Work
Students work in pairs or small groups. One student reads a card and shares their moment aloud.
Other students listen and can ask one short follow-up question.
You can:
- set a short time limit (e.g. 1 minute per card),
- encourage comparison (e.g. “Was this moment similar for anyone else?”),
- focus on clarity, personal meaning, and engagement rather than accuracy only.
This format works well both in class and in online breakout rooms.
Class Sharing
At the end of the activity, invite a few students to share one moment with the whole class.
Classmates can react, compare experiences, or comment on what they found relatable or inspiring.
Encourage students to use supportive language and reflect on how different moments shaped their year.
