Present Simple Third Person Singular
Use these character cards to help students practise he/she/it + present simple with correct -s, -es, -ies.
Option 1: Interview Style (Speaking)
-
Put students in pairs.
-
Give one student a character card. The other is the “interviewer”.
-
The interviewer asks the five questions on the card.
-
The student answers in full sentences, using the correct verb endings. “She wakes up at 7 o’clock.” / “He watches TV in the evening.”
Then switch roles and repeat with a new card.
Option 2: Mini Talk (Speaking or Writing)
-
Each student gets a card and thinks about the answers.
-
They prepare a short talk (spoken or written) about their character’s routine. “This is Anna. She is a teacher. She starts work at 8 o’clock…”
-
Students share their character with a partner or the class.
Option 3: Memory Swap Game
-
Students read their card and memorise 2–3 answers.
-
Collect the cards.
-
Students move around the room, telling others about their character from memory.
-
Partners try to guess which card it was.
✨ Tips:
-
Encourage students to underline the verb endings as they speak or write.
-
Display a visual reminder of spelling rules: plays / watches / carries.
-
For mixed-level groups, allow stronger students to add one more custom question.
