Present Simple Third Person Singular

Grammar activity ENG HUB Pro

Use these character cards to help students practise he/she/it + present simple with correct -s, -es, -ies.

Option 1: Interview Style (Speaking)

  1. Put students in pairs.

  2. Give one student a character card. The other is the “interviewer”.

  3. The interviewer asks the five questions on the card.

  4. The student answers in full sentences, using the correct verb endings. “She wakes up at 7 o’clock.” / “He watches TV in the evening.”

Then switch roles and repeat with a new card.

Option 2: Mini Talk (Speaking or Writing)

  1. Each student gets a card and thinks about the answers.

  2. They prepare a short talk (spoken or written) about their character’s routine. “This is Anna. She is a teacher. She starts work at 8 o’clock…”

  3. Students share their character with a partner or the class.

Option 3: Memory Swap Game

  1. Students read their card and memorise 2–3 answers.

  2. Collect the cards.

  3. Students move around the room, telling others about their character from memory.

  4. Partners try to guess which card it was.

✨ Tips:

  • Encourage students to underline the verb endings as they speak or write.

  • Display a visual reminder of spelling rules: plays / watches / carries.

  • For mixed-level groups, allow stronger students to add one more custom question.
