Relate Unrelatable (Speaking Cards)
Presented with two seemingly unrelated pictures, students are challenged to craft a short story that imaginatively connects both images. Whether working individually, in pairs, or in groups, this exercise allows learners to use their existing vocabulary, while also inviting them to explore new words and expressions with the guidance of the teacher. It's a fantastic way to spark creativity and enhance language fluency for students of all levels.
Instructions:.
Individual Play: Assign one picture pair to each student. Students take turns creating and sharing their unique stories that link the two images.
Group Play (Pairs or Groups): Divide students into pairs or small groups, possibly using Zoom breakout rooms. Each group receives a picture pair and collaborates to create a story.
Sharing and Discussion: After crafting their stories, students or groups present them to the class. Encourage questions, comments, and discussion about the creative connections they've made.
Optional Vocabulary Assistance: Provide opportunities for students to ask about new vocabulary or expressions during the activity, fostering a supportive learning environment.
