How to Use This Activity
This activity can be used as part of a Valentine’s Day lesson and will take approximately 30-50 minutes. It helps students practise rhyming, expand their vocabulary, and create their own Valentine's messages in a fun and interactive way.
Discussion (5-10 minutes) – Start by having students discuss questions about Valentine's messages, rhymes, and emotions related to love. This warms them up and gets them thinking about the topic.
Brainstorming (5-10 minutes) – Provide a list of the most popular words related to love and have students brainstorm as many rhyming words as possible in pairs or small groups. Encourage them to think beyond the obvious!
Practice (5-10 minutes) – Give students half-finished two-line Valentine’s Day messages and ask them to complete the rhyme. This helps them get comfortable with rhyming structures before creating their own.
Creative Writing (10-15 minutes) – Students now write their own original rhyming Valentine’s Day messages, using the words they brainstormed. They can make them romantic, funny, or even friendly.
5️⃣ Presentation & Feedback (5-10 minutes) – In small groups, students present their rhyming messages to the class. Encourage positive feedback on creativity, rhyme quality, and emotional impact. You can even vote for the sweetest, funniest, or most creative message!
This activity works well both online and offline, making it engaging for all learners while enhancing their language skills in a meaningful and festive way! ❤️
