Summer Discussion Second Conditional

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to use:

Online - Breakout Rooms (Pair or Group Work)

  • Assign students to pairs or small groups in breakout rooms.
  • Students take turns completing each sentence starter aloud.
  • Encourage them to ask follow-up questions (e.g. Why?, What would happen next?).
  • Monitor breakout rooms and give feedback afterwards.

Individual Lesson

  • Read or show sentence starters one at a time.
  • The student responds using the Second Conditional.
  • Ask clarifying or expansion questions to keep the conversation natural.

Give on-the-spot grammar support and model examples if needed.

Offline - Pair or Small Group Speaking

  • Distribute the list of sentence starters.
  • Students take turns reading and completing them aloud.
  • Encourage them to ask each other questions and compare answers.
  • Walk around the classroom and note good language or errors for feedback.

Individual Writing or Speaking

  • Ask students to complete a set number of sentence starters in writing.
  • Afterwards, they can share a few with a partner or the whole class.
  • Use written responses for grammar checks or fluency journals.
