Summer Memories

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to Use in Offline Lessons

  • Print or project the memory cards (e.g., “I travelled a lot”, “I relaxed every day”, “I met new people”).
  • Give each student (or pair/group) one card.
  • Students take 30 seconds to think about their own summer memory using the given phrase prompts.
  • Each student speaks for about 30 seconds, sharing their memory with contrastive language.
  • Classmates can react (thumbs up, short applause) or ask 1–2 follow-up questions.
  • Option: Have the class vote on the funniest, most relatable, or most surprising memory.

How to Use in Online Lessons

  • Share the cards via screen share, chat, or email.
  • Assign cards randomly or let students choose.
  • Students have a brief preparation moment, then deliver their memory using their webcam/microphone.
  • Classmates can react with emojis in the chat (👍👏😂) or ask follow-up questions.
  • Option: Use breakout rooms for smaller discussions before coming back to the main session for highlights.

For online lessons, breakout rooms can be used so students first practise their memories in small groups before returning to the main room to share highlights with everyone.
