Teach Me in 2 Minutes

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to use:

Individual lesson (1 student)

  • Give the student one or more prompt cards with a topic and a condition (e.g. What is stress? Explain it to someone from 1850.)
  • The student reads the card, thinks about the person or situation, and prepares a short explanation using simple words, examples, and comparisons
  • The student explains out loud — you listen and react in character or ask 1–2 follow-up questions
  • Repeat with a new card; encourage the student to adapt their vocabulary and tone each time

Pair / group work (including breakout rooms)

  • Give one or more prompt cards to each pair or group
  • Students take turns reading the prompt and explaining the topic according to the condition on the card
  • The listener reacts in character or asks 1–2 follow-up questions
  • Students should focus on adapting their vocabulary, tone, and examples for different people, time periods, or situations

Class sharing

  • Invite some students or groups to share their explanation with the class
  • The class guesses who the explanation was for, or discusses which explanations were the clearest and most creative
  • Focus on fluency, paraphrasing, audience awareness, and creative communication

Extra ideas

  • Students must avoid 3 "forbidden words" while explaining
  • Students vote for the funniest, clearest, or most convincing explanation
  • Add a timer challenge: explain everything in 60/120 seconds
