We’ve created our very first and long-awaited speaking club lesson plan.
It’s a brand-new format, so we decided to get creative and go all out with the design. We stepped away from our usual branding to make each material feel fresh and exciting for you.
Before the lesson, students will:
- Read the article ‘Do You Fear Being Normal?’
- Learn useful vocabulary using a Quizlet set
- Optionally practise the vocabulary from the article by completing Wordwall tasks
During the speaking club, students will:
- Introduce themselves in three sentences and complete one sentence frame
- Reflect on and discuss what an “ordinary life” is
- Agree or disagree with statements about an exciting life and happiness
- Rank values according to what matters most to them
- Read a Reddit post and discuss how they would respond
- Read the comments and decide which one sounds more helpful
- Discuss why their life is special and play Two Truths and a Lie
- Reflect on everything they have discussed and learnt during the lesson
Tips for each format:
- PDF presentation (teacher): Use for simple, no-tech lessons or as a reliable backup. Ideal for screen sharing or printing key slides.
- Canva presentation (teacher): Use for a more dynamic session with animations and built-in videos. Best for keeping energy high and students engaged.
- Teacher’s Notes: Follow step-by-step during the lesson for guidance, timing, and extra tips. Helpful for smooth transitions between stages.
- Student’s Notes: Send before the lesson for preparation. Encourage students to use them during and after the session for reference and revision.
- Miro board: Use for interactive, collaborative tasks. Duplicate frames for pairs/groups and let students work simultaneously in a shared space.
