The More, the Better
Individual work
- The teacher assigns one or more cards to the student.
- The student reads the prompt and makes a statement using the more…, the more/less….
- They then explain whether they agree with the statement and give a reason or example.
- The teacher can model an answer before the activity.
- Encourage the student to give a clear reason and add one personal or real-life example.
Pair/group work (including breakout rooms)
- The teacher assigns one or more cards to each pair or group.
- Students take turns reading their prompts and making statements using the more…, the more/less….
- The other students say whether they agree or disagree, explain why, and ask follow-up questions.
- Encourage them to improve or challenge each other’s statements before moving on to the next card.
Extra ideas
- Students choose the most controversial prompt.
- Students change a statement to express the opposite idea.
- Students add a personal example to each statement.
- One student makes a statement, and their partner tries to challenge it.
- Students sort the cards into Agree, Disagree, and It depends.
- Students rank five statements from Definitely true to Definitely false.
