The Trend Builder
Individual work
Show one trend at a time and give the student a moment to read it.
Ask the student to think about which social factors have made this trend popular.
Give 30–60 seconds to think before speaking.
The student explains their ideas, giving reasons and examples.
Encourage longer answers with follow-up questions (Why has this become popular? Who is influenced by it? Would it be popular without social media?).
Focus on fluency and clear ideas rather than correcting mistakes at this stage.
Group work (including breakout rooms)
Show the trend and explain the task.
Put students into pairs or small groups (2–4 students).
Students discuss why the trend has become popular and what factors have influenced it.

After the discussion, invite a few students to share their ideas with the whole class.
Keep feedback focused on communication, clarity of ideas, and participation.
