Tiny Victories

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to Use This Activity

Individual Work

  • The student reads a short card with a “tiny victory” from daily life (e.g. You found a free seat in a café.).
  • The student retells the situation as if it were a huge success, exaggerating the story with intensifiers (e.g. It was absolutely amazing! It was unbelievably perfect!).
  • Encourage the student to speak for 3–5 sentences and use at least two intensifiers in each story.

Pair or Group Work

  • Students work in pairs or small groups. One student reads their tiny victory card aloud. Then they retell it dramatically to the group.
  • The others can react with short comments (e.g. Wow, that’s incredible! That’s unbelievable!). After one student finishes, the next person takes a new card.
  • Groups may vote for the “most epic tiny victory” or set a time limit (e.g. 30–40 seconds per story). This format works well in class or in online breakout rooms.
