Unlikely Superpowers

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to Use:

Offline (In-Person)

  • Pairs/Small Groups: Students take turns describing their superpower and discussing how they would use it. Others ask questions or give suggestions.
  • Whole Class Sharing: Some students present their superpowers to the class. The teacher encourages discussion by asking follow-up questions.
  • Partner Switch: Students change partners every few minutes to share their superpower with someone new.
  • Writing Activity: After speaking, students write a short paragraph about their superpower and how it could help them.

Online (Breakout Rooms)

  • Small Group Discussion: Students talk in breakout rooms, explaining their superpowers and asking each other questions.
  • Think & Share: Students first write a few sentences about their superpower, then discuss it in small groups.
  • Mini-Debate: Students compare different superpowers and decide which one would be the most useful.

Flexible Approach:

  •  Students can choose their superpower or get a random one.
  •  Encourage fun and creative ideas, not just serious ones.
  •  Mix speaking with writing to help students practise in different ways.
