Unusual Holidays Speaking Fun

Speaking activity ENG HUB Pro

How to use:

  1. Introduce the concept: Begin by discussing some well-known holidays and how they are celebrated. This sets the stage for inventing unique holidays.

  2. Provide examples: Share a couple of the fictional holidays from the list, like "Upside-Down Day" or "No Technology Day", to spark ideas and set expectations.

  3. Group work: Divide students into pairs or small groups. Assign a task card to each group or let them choose one from all cards.

  4. Brainstorming: Give students 10-15 minutes to discuss the main features of their holiday: the reason for the holiday, traditions, foods, activities, and any other relevant details.

  5. Presentation: After brainstorming, each group can present their holiday to the class. Encourage them to be descriptive and imaginative.

  6. Discussion: After each presentation, have a short discussion. Ask questions like: "Would you like to celebrate this holiday? Why or why not?" or "What was the most interesting part of this holiday?"

Or discuss each card without preparation with more advanced students.
