What Would You Ban?

Speaking activity Free

How to use this activity

Individual Work

Students read each idea and decide whether they would ban it or keep it.

For each choice, they should explain their position with:

  • Clear reasons
  • Possible consequences

Encourage students to speak in full sentences and use the Useful Phrases to make their arguments sound more convincing.

Pair or Group Work

Students work in pairs or small groups (or use breakout rooms if online).

Their mission:

  • Share opinions openly
  • Challenge each other’s arguments
  • Ask for clarification or more details

Class Sharing

Bring it back to the whole class.

Invite groups to share their most surprising, controversial, or funniest bans and the reasons behind them.

This wrap-up works great as a mini debate to build confidence and persuasive language skills.
