Winter Trade-Off
How to Use This Activity
Individual Work
The student chooses or receives a winter habit or moment. Their task is to talk about it from two sides: what it gives them and how it helps, and what becomes more difficult because of it. Encourage students to be honest and connect the trade-off to their real winter routine. They can make brief notes before speaking, but the focus should be on clear, natural explanation.
Pair or Group Work
Students discuss the same winter habit together and identify both its benefits and its downsides. They should agree on the most realistic trade-off and explain why it feels true for winter specifically. Ask them to react to each other’s ideas by adding examples, questioning the balance, or saying which side feels stronger for them. Rotate cards so students work with several different winter moments.
Class Sharing
Invite students or groups to share one winter trade-off with the class. Listeners compare which habits feel the most relatable or which downsides they hadn’t considered before. Optionally, run a quick vote for Most Relatable Winter Trade-Off, Most Balanced Explanation, or Most Honest Answer.
